Ken Perrone
Title: Coach- Football and Baseball

Ken Perrone was the football and baseball coach at Brewer High School from 1967 to 1973.  He has been recognized as one of Maine’s most successful coaches in both sports.

Perrone's first coaching stint was in 1960 at Dixfield High School, Maine where his football team had their first winning season in a number of years and his baseball team went undefeated and won their conference championship.  He then went on to coach at John Bapst High School (Maine) for six years and brought their programs to prominence, winning six baseball championships with an 80 – 21 overall record and four conference championships in football including back to back state titles in 1964 and 1965.  His overall football win-loss record was 47 – 6 in six years.

Perrone moved across the river to coach football and baseball at Brewer High School in 1967.  Brewer had just been moved to Class A.  His overall win-loss record at Brewer was 121 – 23 in baseball with three conference championships.  The 1970 baseball team was 25 – 0 in the regular season, set three state records, while losting 1 game in the playoffs. The 1969 and 1970 baseball teams had a combined record of 48-3 with 30 straight wins at one point.

Perone was probably most recognized as Brewer’s most successful head football coach winning 45 games and only losing 12.  His second season, the Brewer Football Team was Class A state champion in 1968 and that was followed by the 1970 team that not only was Class A state champion but was also ranked number 1 in New England, number 1 in the east and number 5 in the country.

Perrone then moved on to coach in Massachusetts where he amassed numerous championships in football at Salem High School (22 years) and baseball at Salem State College (27 years).

In 60 total baseball seasons and 37 football seasons, Perrone’s teams won an astounding 1,413 games, capturing 49 championships which included 6 state high school titles, 5 state college titles and 7 undefeated teams.  He was honored 16 times as coach of the year and has been inducted into 8 Halls of Fame.

There are only two teams in the United States that have the mascot of the "Witches." It is unique that Ken Perrone has coached both of them: Brewer, Maine and Salem, Massachussetts.

Perrone has lived in Danvers, Massachussetts since leaving Brewer in 1973. He and his wife Jan were married for forty-five years until she passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He is presently married to Cindy Doane, formerly of Brewer. They have six children and thirteen grandchildren between them.
