The construction of the Athletic Hall of Fame was an extensive process- some 2 years in the making; however, the end result turned out to be a tremendous product that our alumni and current students can be proud of. As guests enter Brewer High School, they are greeted by this "first class" structure.
The idea for the Athletic Hall of Fame began with newly hired Athletic Administrator David Utterback in the fall of 2012. After meeting a group of alumni who were seeking to erect a memorial stone for Heddericg Field, Mr. Utterback assembled a small group of many of those involved in that project to explore the concept of the Hall of Fame for Brewer High School. This initial exploratory committee included; Jim White, Joe Ferris, Norris Nickerson, Dan O'Connell, David Jeffrey, Dennis Kiah and Becky Bubar. This group laid some of the initial groundwork for the project, but ultimately put the project on hold to await news of the BHS rennovation scheduled for the summer of 2013 and the entire school year of 2013-2014.
It was at that time that a formal Hall of Fame commitee was formed to craft the by-laws and move forward with the process of induction, what sort of structure and how inductees would be recognized and other details involved. Although the project piggybacked off the $8.4 million rennovation, additional funds were to be secured that would allow the Hall of Fame to come to fruition, as seen in the architects rendering above.
The committee needed to secure an additional $30,000 for construction of their concept, which included four glass panels with custom graphic overlays behind them, custom millwork and lettering, additional support structure for the wall in which the structure was to be attached as well as payment to the architects and designers who worked so dilligently to put our ideas on paper for all to see.
Through the efforts of the committee and support of the community, we were able to surpass the goal of $30,000 and construct the Hall of Fame worthy of those honored within it. Listed below are the donors to the construction of the Brewer High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
