Title: Student-Athlete; Field Hockey, Basketball, Softball
Year: 1985

Kris Littlefield Jordan, class of 1985, was an outstanding three sport athlete at Brewer High School.  Littlefield excelled as a four year Field Hockey player.  Her determination, work ethic, and natural ability helped her excel as a player and she became a varsity starter, letter winner and PVC All-Conference team member her 10th, 11th and 12th grade seasons.  As an outstanding forward, she made the “All-State First Team both her junior and senior years.  Littlefield’s leadership skills earned her the role of team captain her senior year.  Her high school coach, Dottie Whalen described Kris Littlefield as a “hardworking player with good intensity…an individual of great natural ability.  She was the type of player who made things happen on the field.”  Her athleticism in field hockey did not go unnoticed.  She was recruited heavily by college scouts most prominently by the University of Maine and Plymouth State.

In basketball, she excelled as a varsity point guard for the Witches earning her school letter all four years.  At only 5’5”, Littlefield was well known throughout Eastern Maine basketball for her sharp shooting, speed, strength and quick handed defense.  Over her four years, she averaged 15 points per game, shot 40% from the floor and 66% from the line and she averaged 6 assists and 5 steals per game.  She was the MVP at the University of Maine Girls’ Super Week in 1984 and she went on to make the second team All-State her senior year.  She was recruited by then Women’s Coach, Peter Gavett, of the University of Maine as he considered her one of the top four guards in the State of Maine.

Littlefield’s outstanding athleticism was not limited to just basketball or field hockey.  She was a starting second baseman and lead-off hitter for the varsity softball team all four years of high school.  Her four year average softball statistics included batting .360 with a fielding percentage of .940 and she also averaged 20 steals per year!  Regarded as one of the more gifted softball players in the Penobscot Valley, Littlefield was selected to the PVC All-Conference team during each of her four seasons.

Paul Soucy, Littlefield’s varsity basketball and varsity softball coach, deems Kris Littlefield Jordan to be one of the top four female athletes that he’s ever seen play.  During her senior year at Brewer High School, Littlefield earned the prestigious Ohmart-Hinkley Senior Athlete of the Year Award.  She was also a member of the Brewer Witches B-Club and academically she graduated in the top 10% her class.

Although Littlefield was actively recruited by the University of Maine to play field hockey and basketball, she chose to attend Springfield College in Massachusetts to pursue a physical education degree and also play basketball.  A "walk on" her freshman year, she made the team which was quite an accomplishment as Springfield College was a Division II school at the time.  She went on to become a starter her sophomore year.

With a change of her major to therapeutic recreation, Littlefield transferred to the University of Southern Maine in Portland for her Junior and Senior years where she starred as the basketball team’s starting point guard.  She played a key role in USM’s success on the court.  Her junior year, with a record of 27-3, USM became the first Maine college to go to the Division III NCAA Championships.  During her senior year, USM Women’s Basketball was 26-4 and lost in the Division III Regional Semi-Finals.  Her college coach, Gary Fifield, had high praise for the former Brewer standout stating that “Kris was the perfect point guard.  She took care of the ball, got the ball to the right people, and scored enough to keep people honest.”  During her two years at USM, she averaged 8 pts. per game, shot 52% from the floor, and averaged 5.3 assists per game.  At the time of her Brewer Athletic Hall of Fame Induction, she still held career assists records at USM, 12th in career assists, 5th in single season totals with 160, and second in assists per game (5.3).  Quite outstanding accomplishments considering she only played two years at USM!  As a result of her stellar basketball career, she was inducted into the USM Husky Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

After graduating in 1989 from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in Recreational Therapy, Littlefield was employed at Acadia Hospital for 10 years as a recreational therapist.  Earning a bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 2001, she has since that time worked in the Emergency Room at Eastern Maine Medical Center.  Residents of Orrington, she and her husband Rick have two children:  Nicholas, a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy and Laura, a St. Joseph’s College graduate and special educator for the Bonny Eagle School District.
