Legacy "B" Sweater Award Presented by the Brewer Athletic Hall of Fame
In 2023 the Brewer Athletic Hall of Fame initiated an essay contest “What it means to me to be a Brewer Witch” for eligible junior athletes.
The Legacy "B" Sweater Award is another means for the Hall of Fame to inspire present and future student-athletes to strive for excellence and distinction in all their athletic and non-athletic endeavors by perpetuating the memory and accomplishments of those who have served as role models.
B Sweater History: The original full knit “B” sweaters were part of Brewer's rich athletic history from the 1920’s to the early 1970’s! Like many wool sweaters of the era, the Brewer B sweaters were knitted at Emple Knitting Mill in Brewer (now the location of Mardens Discount Store). The sweaters were sent in three sections: the main body and the two arms to Brewer seamstresses who were tasked with hand knitting the arms to the main body.
Legacy B Sweater Award: One junior athlete will be selected annually by the Brewer Athletic Hall of Fame based on their application and essay to receive the Legacy "B" Sweater Award. Recipients receive a framed vintage “B” Sweater with a short athletic biography of the original athlete who earned the sweater affixed to the back of the frame.
Recipients keep the Legacy "B" Sweater Award for as long as they wish and when they or their descendants are ready, they are encouraged to return the Legacy "B" Sweater to the Brewer Athletic Hall of Fame to pass their legacy on to a future generation!
