Eric White, 2010, Ice Hockey and Baseball

Eric White, a 2010 graduate, was an outstanding two sport athlete in ice hockey and baseball at Brewer High School where he also displayed incredible athleticism on the golf team his senior year. White was one of Brewer’s most decorated athletes of all time earning not only Brewer High School’s prestigious Leslie M. Ohmart Jr. “Athlete of the Year” Award for 2009-2010 but numerous appointments to All-State and All-Conference Teams in ice hockey and baseball as well as several awards for academic excellence. White was also the recipient of the very competitive George Mitchell Scholarship in 2010.

Eric White was a four-year member of the varsity ice hockey team and was a key member of two Class B State Championship Teams in 2007 and 2010. White earned the starting goalie position his sophomore and junior years assisting the Witches in making it into the Eastern Maine Semi-Finals.  During his senior year, White was again protecting the net as Brewer’s starting goalie.   White’s phenomenal defense was a huge contributing factor as Brewer defeated York 3-1 and clinched the 2010 Class B State Championship Title. During the state game, White's reflexes for tracking the puck and fast reaction time in deflecting it were highlighted by his coach David Shedd, "He's phenomenal...very cat-like.  He reminds me of a panther with his quick eyes and hands."  He totaled 24 saves and kept the game scoreless for the entire first period.  Brewer ended their 2010 season with a 19-1-1 record. White was selected as a Maine All-State First Team Goaltender and KVAC All-Conference First Team Goalie for all three years as starting goalie for the Witches.

White’s athleticism was equally evident on the baseball field where he accomplished the rare baseball feat of starting all four years as a varsity player.  While the third base position was his specialty, he was known to pitch when needed. The Brewer Witches had four great seasons during White’s time at Brewer going deep into the playoffs each year. The Witches made it to the Eastern Maine Championship game his freshman year. In his sophomore year, White played a key role in helping the baseball team reach the state finals, a first for Brewer in over 20 years.  It was in this Class A State Championship game which went into extra innings that White hit a three-run homer, his first high school home run.  White lead the Brewer Witches to the Eastern Maine Semi-Finals his junior year and the Eastern Maine Championship game his senior year.  He was selected to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC) First Team in Baseball for 2009 and 2010 as well as named the 2009 and 2010 KVAC Player of the Year.  White was runner-up for Maine’s Mr. Baseball Award his senior year and played in the East/West All-Star Game. Dave Morris, a long time high school and American Legion baseball coach states, “Eric White was the best all-around player that I ever coached. His contributions, dedication and accomplishments to Brewer High School athletics in his four years were outstanding.”

White also played in the Brewer Senior League where his team won the district title. The team went on to play in the Senior League World Series at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor. He also played for five years for the Brewer Falcons American Legion team and was selected to the American Legion State Tournament Team at third base in 2010.  White was the Zone 1 American Legion Baseball Player of the Year in both 2010 and 2011.

Very humble about his accomplishments, White always believed that the teams’ chemistry, discipline and work ethic are what made the teams he played on so successful.  Discipline and work ethic were two qualities White displayed not only as an athlete but as a student.  He was an honor roll student all four years of high school and was a two-time recipient of the Superintendent’s Award for academic excellence.  White was also named to the KVAC All-Academic Teams in Golf and Ice Hockey his senior year.  In recognition of his athletic and academic excellence his senior year, he was awarded Scholar Athlete Awards by both the KVAC and the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

After high school White went on to play Division I Baseball for the Black Bears at the University of Maine for three years. A utility infielder and relief pitcher his first two seasons at Maine, White had an outstanding breakout season his junior year locking down the third base position.  An exceptional defenseman, he was fearless in knocking down balls hit at him, a testament to his hockey goaltender’s mentality.   He was named the America East Conference Player of the Week three different times in 2013. White was selected to the All-America East Conference First Team in 2013 after batting .347 with a team-leading six home runs, 37 runs batted in and six stolen bases. White earned a degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting and finance from the University of Maine in 2014.

Eric White currently works for Credit Suisse and is married to Whitney Norton of Jonesport, a licensed Speech Language Pathologist.  Eric and Whitney reside in Raleigh, North Carolina.
