David Jeffrey
Title: Coach- Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field, Contributor and Student-Athlete
Year: 1972

David Jeffrey has cemented his legacy as one of the most influential individuals in the history of Maine track & field and cross country.

A 1972 graduate of Brewer High School, Jeffrey played football, basketball and track & field. Jeffrey was the kicker on the football team coached by fellow BHS Hall of Famer, Ken Perrone.

While soccer was not his forte in high school, Jeffrey would attend the University of Maine and play 4 years of men's soccer for the Black Bears. Jeffrey graduated from the University of Maine in 1976 with a BA in History.

Following his collegiate career, Jeffrey returned to his alma mater to begin a teaching and coaching career. Between 1979 and 2003, Coach Jeffrey led the Witches Indoor Track squads to 8 state championships (1 boys, 7 girls), 4 state runners-up and a total of 23 regional championships (10 boys, 13 girls).

Within those Indoor Track squads, Jeffrey has been the head coach to 106 regional championship performers, 35 individual state champions and compiled an overall boys record of 468-32 and an overall girls record of 470-30.

In addition to coaching Indoor Track, Jeffrey also coached the Outdoor program from 1982-1998. His teams won 6 league championships, 4 regional championships and were a 2-time state runner up.

After coaching, Jeffrey would develop and implement a timing system that has revolutionized Maine Track & Field and Cross Country. By utilizing equipment developed by FinishLynx systems and BHS graduate, Doug DeAngelis, Jeffrey created the Brewer Timing Services. Since 1996, Brewer Timing Services has been contracted to time all state Cross Country Championships as well as all Indoor championships and most Outdoor championships. Jeffrey has taken his show on the road as well, timing 3 USATF National Championships and multiple Division I, II and III collegiate events.

In the spring of 2014, Jeffrey was inducted in the inaugural class of the Maine Principals' Association Hall of Excellence.
