As the Head Swim Coach since November 2018, Carmen Williams brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to the program.  

Carmen began her swimming career at the age of 8 in her hometown of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with the Nepean Kanata Barracudas. While swimming for the Barracudas, Carmen raced all strokes specializing in sprint and distance freestyle. During her age group swimming career she achieved qualifying times allowing her to compete regionally, provincially and nationally in Canada.

During Carmen’s senior year of high school, she was recruited to the University of Maine and offered an athletic scholarship. Carmen went on to accept this scholarship and competed all four years of her undergraduate career for the University of Maine Black Bears where she specialized in the 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 yd. freestyle and the 200 yd. Individual Medley. During her junior year at the University of Maine, she broke the 1000 and 1650 yd freestyle school records. Additionally, Carmen currently holds the school record for the 800 yard freestyle relay, which she and her teammates set during her junior year then went on to improve their record time during her senior year. Carmen also served as captain for the Black Bears during her senior year.  

Carmen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a double major in Sociology and Anthropology in 2013 and went on to complete her graduate studies in Social Work earning her Masters of Social Work in 2015. During her time at the University of Maine, Carmen worked in the department of academic support for student athletes tutoring and mentoring student athletes helping to ensure that they reached their academic potential. She also taught swimming lessons throughout her time at the University of Maine to children of varying skill levels. She is also currently an assistant swim coach with the Barracuda Swim Team of the Bangor Y. Carmen and her fellow UMaine swimming teammate/captain, Brent Williams, were married in the summer of 2016 and reside in Brewer with their daughters Hadley and Courtney and their sons Fletcher and Rory.
